Bible Societies of Lebanon and Iraq celebrated “Bible Days” in Erbil 7 – 9 September 2017 through lectures and programs for children under the theme of “Witnessing in the Bible”
In the Syriac Catholic and the Chaldean churches, Father Ayoub Chehwan addressed the people in the course of two lectures about witnessing and martyrdom in the history of the church from Biblical days until today. Stephan was the main character presented as an example of a man of God who suffered because of his faith. He encouraged and urged the Iraqi Christians to have the same response of love and forgiveness that Stephan had until his last breath.
The Bible Days celebrations also had four special programs prepared for children. In addition to the above mention churches and at the Evangelical Alliance church and the Syriac Orthodox church, “Farhan” the clown taught the children using fun games and tricks, how God is always with us and hears our prayers when we call on Him. He emphasized the importance of reading the Bible and being attentive to the church community and the people God puts their lives to deliver his Word to them.
Bible Days 2017 was a blessing and an encouragement to the Christian families planning to return to their home villages.
The Bible Society’s vision is to holistically meet the needs of communities through the transforming Word of God. As a Christian inter-confessional, ecumenical, non-profit organization, it works to spread the Holy Bible’s message and culture to all generations through translating, publishing, and distributing the Scriptures using visual, audio-visual, readable, and digital formats, encouraging people to read and engage with God’s Word, advocating the Bible cause to uphold human dignity, and partnering with all Churches and Christian institutions.
