A group of catechism teachers alongside Fr. Boutros Azar, General Secretary of Catholic Schools in Lebanon, Father Joseph Soueid and Bible Society staff gathered on October 4, 2019 for the launching of the illustrated Jil Il Injil gospels book at the Bible Society center.
The event started with an opening word of welcome from Dr. Mike Bassous, General Secretary and CEO of Bible society Lebanon.
Then Fr. Joseph Soueid, content provider of the book, said a word of thanks to the Bible Society for adopting the Jil Il Injil project and shared the story of how Jil Il Injil came to be.
“Jil Il Injil started with me,” said Fr. Soueid. As he read his Bible, many questions would pop up. When he went looking for answers, he found that they weren’t that easy to find. He wondered why he could not find a database of such questions anywhere. That drove him to start writing down all the answers and questions he found along the way, and to share them with others as fun biblical quizzes.
Now, with the Jil Il Injil book in hand, Fr. Joseph and the Bible Society hope that the easy-to-read Good News Arabic translation, clear big font, illustrations, and wide-range of questions would motivate this generation to read the Bible comprehensively. The catechism teachers especially have a big role to play in helping their students understand and enjoy reading the Word.
Fr. Boutros Azar ended the event with the verse from psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path” followed by a closing prayer.
A small reception followed the event and all the invitees received a copy of the illustrated Jil Il Injil gospels book as a gift.
The Bible Society’s vision is to holistically meet the needs of communities through the transforming Word of God. As a Christian inter-confessional, ecumenical, non-profit organization, it works to spread the Holy Bible’s message and culture to all generations through translating, publishing, and distributing the Scriptures using visual, audio-visual, readable, and digital formats, encouraging people to read and engage with God’s Word, advocating the Bible cause to uphold human dignity, and partnering with all Churches and Christian institutions.
