Bible Society Lebanon hosted and organized an Advanced and Initial Children’s Trauma Healing training followed by a 5-day application camp from 22 to 31 August 2018.
Participants from different churches and NGOs, mainly working with children, were invited by the Bible Societies of Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq to join the Initial equipping session to be trained on a Bible-based trauma healing program.
The program will teach them how to assist and help children, between the ages of eight and thirteen years, who have passed through traumatizing events, especially refugees. The lessons are presented in an interactive and enjoyable way using Bible stories, scripture engagement and creative games to reach the healing process.
This program is presented in partnership with the American Bible Society (ABS) and by their trainers, Dr. Margi McCombs, the Director of Children and teen Trauma Healing at ABS along with Kalyn Lantz, certified Master Facilitator in the Trauma Healing Institute.
- Advanced training
In the process of training local Master Facilitators, 8 Apprentice Facilitators from Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq who already passed through the first level of the program attended an advanced session in which they shared their experiences, stories of success and challenges while implementing the curriculum in their own communities.
Then the facilitators took part in the Initial training and camp as part of their advanced training. The trainers were able to observe and evaluate the participants for skills and capacities that would qualify them for advanced certification. At the end of the camp, they were certified according to their performance as Master Facilitator in Training.
- Initial Equipping Session
Thirty-six trainees from Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq completed a three-day classroom training followed by a 5-day application camp and were certified as Apprentice Facilitators which allows them to apply this program with children in their communities.
The Healing Hearts camp involved 60 Iraqi kids from the Chaldean Church in Beirut and 10 kids from Dar EL Awlad orphanage where the camp was taking place. Throughout the camp and with each lesson, the kids were able to share their stories and experiences each in their own group. They learned about characters in the Bible and related their stories to them. They learned bible verses, games and self-expressive activities. At the end of the camp, in a closing ceremony with the presence of the parents, each group presented what they learned in the past 5 days through sketches, hymns and bible verse presentations.
