Under the patronage of Archbishop Paul Mattar of the Maronite diocese of Beirut, the Bible Society launched a new book written by Fr. Guy Sarkis about St. Peter’s faith. The book entitled “Go to the Deep” summarizes St. Peter’s journey of faith in the Gospels and Acts and corresponds with Pope Benedict XVI’s declaration of 2013: Year of the Faith.

Almost 300 people attended the book launching, which was held at the Sagesse Alumni hall facing the Maronite archdiocese of Beirut. After a word of welcome by Bishop Mattar, Msgr. Issam Abi Khalil, President of the Maronite Patriarchal Seminary, provided an overview of the book. This was followed by another intervention by Msgr. Antoine Assaf, deputy for the pastoral matters in the diocese. “With an average of four Scriptural references in every page, this book presents an enormous wealth of in-depth information in a simplified approach,” declared Dr. Mike Bassous, General Secretary of the Bible Society during his word.

Fr. Sarkis explained the reasons behind writing the book. “We all struggle in our journey of faith. We can all learn from St. Peter’s life and walk of faith with Christ.”

The event concluded with a book signing ceremony and refreshments.
