Fifty participants from Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq participated in a four-day trauma healing equipping workshop to serve underprivileged communities in the region.

The Bible Society in Lebanon organized a trauma healing training from the 4th till the 7th of October 2017 in partnership with Master Facilitators from the Trauma Healing Institute of the American Bible Society. There were around 50 trainees from different churches and organizations in Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq.

The purpose of this Bible-based trauma healing training was to equip individuals to help others on a journey of healing. The trainees were people from organizations or churches who work with families or individuals that have been through traumatic events, domestic abuse, addictions, or any other type of struggles. The trainees learned how to approach traumatized individuals, how to listen to them, and how to offer comfort and support using Bible verses along with psychological techniques. At the end of the workshop, the trainees were certified as apprentice facilitators and will now be holding their own healing groups.

The training gained a lot of positive feedback from the attendees. One participant shared that “this training taught us how to live as Christians in the midst of crisis in the Middle East.” Another pointed out that “it helped me identify my potential in helping traumatized people,” while another commented: “I feel I’m now more equipped to help others.”

This was an initial equipping session consisting of core lessons. This will be followed by an advanced session in early 2018, which will offer the trainees the opportunity to become healing groups facilitators and eventually Master facilitators in trauma healing. We are looking forward to hearing reports of how the facilitators are using what they learned to offer healing to their communities.

The Bible Society’s vision is to holistically meet the needs of communities through the transforming Word of God. As a Christian inter-confessional, ecumenical, non-profit organization, it works to spread the Holy Bible’s message and culture to all generations through translating, publishing, and distributing the Scriptures using visual, audio-visual, readable, and digital formats, encouraging people to read and engage with God’s Word, advocating the Bible cause to uphold human dignity, and partnering with all Churches and Christian institutions.
