Online Bible Competition for Schools

Bible Society, in collaboration with the Assembly of Catholic Patriarchs and Bishops in Lebanon (APECL), led its first online quiz competition among 12 Catholic schools in Lebanon during the Week of the Bible 2017 between November 2017 and April 2018, to encourage children and teens to read their Bibles.

The competition targeted grades 3 to 12. The grades then divided into three levels (simple, medium, and difficult) that competed amongst each other in a series of online Bible quizzes to determine who are the most Bible knowledgeable teams among the participating schools. The teams collected points based on the number of correct answers and quickest quizzes’ completion times.

The competition ended in a live finale between the teams of different schools hosted at the Bible Society youth center. The children and teens came prepared for the competition with their Bibles in hand and big enthusiastic smiles on their faces. Even the teachers were excited and eager to show how well their students have studied the required Bible references for the competition.

The winners of the first prize were grade 5 from Antonine Sisters School, grade 8 from Notre Dame de la Paix and grade 10 from Notre Dame de la Paix for the three levels respectively. While grade 5 from Notre Dame de la Paix, grade 8 from Saint Coeurs Ain Najem and grade 10 from Sainte Therese won 2nd place.

The feedback from the children and teachers was very encouraging and positive.
One teacher said, “It was wonderful for me to see how the children were excited all throughout the competition. It brought them together and made them work as one team. They helped each other look through the Bible to find verses and passages. The finale was especially wonderful as we were able to compete with another group that is just as eager to spread the word of God as we are, regardless of who wins first prize.”

It even encouraged the responsible nun at one of the schools to change the outline of its Christian faith lessons to become more Bible-centered.

The students had a unanimous feedback that expressed how fun the competition had been and how it taught them the importance of reading the Bible.

The Bible Society’s vision is to holistically meet the needs of communities through the transforming Word of God. As a Christian inter-confessional, ecumenical, non-profit organization, it works to spread the Holy Bible’s message and culture to all generations through translating, publishing, and distributing the Scriptures using visual, audio-visual, readable, and digital formats, encouraging people to read and engage with God’s Word, advocating the Bible cause to uphold human dignity, and partnering with all Churches and Christian institutions.
