The Bible Society in Lebanon held its annual private dinner on 19 June 2018, at Le Maillon restaurant in Ashrafieh which hosted 130 persons from church representatives, clergy, businesspeople, professionals, politicians, and friends of the Bible Society. This occasion allows the Supporters to get acquainted with the year’s accomplishments, challenges, and the future opportunities.
The Chairman, Mr. Amine Khoury shared a word welcoming all guests, thanking His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of the Armenian Church Holy See of Cilicia, His Holiness Mor Ingatius Aphrem II, Patriarch of the Syriac Orthodox Church, Mgr. Ivan Santus, Deputy Head of Mission of the Apostolic Nuncio in Lebanon, and other bishop and dignitaries for their appreciated presence. Then His Holiness Patriarch Aphrem II commenced the dinner with an opening prayer.
During the dinner, the General Secretary, Dr. Mike Bassous shared about the accomplishments achieved through the five Centers of Excellence that complements the vision of the Bible Society, to holistically meet the needs of communities through the transforming Word of God. The Publishing Institute working on 12 new products this year in addition to the ongoing promising projects especially the “Lebanon Bible” with USEK; Digital Bible mission is working on developing 3 applications; Healing the Mind & Spirit – Trauma healing program – providing hope to underprivileged communities in Lebanon; MENA center for Biblical studies addressing three biblical lectures throughout the year; and the Institute for Leadership Development along with ten Faith-based INGOs who met to discuss and develop capacity building programs.
Moreover, the distribution of Scriptures has reached 300,000 items in 2017. The Children and youth programs were able to reach more than 27,000 persons last year and encouraged bible engagement. Throughout the presentation, Dr. Bassous thanked the Patriarchs and Church leaders for their unfailing trust in providing Bible Society with endorsement letters.
As dinner was coming to an end, the Bible Society took this opportunity to show deep appreciation to His Holiness Aram I on the occasion of his 50th anniversary of priesthood ordination. The honor plaque emphasized His Holiness’ service to the Word of God and included the bible verse “Keep busy always in your work for the Lord since you know that nothing you do in the Lord’s service is ever useless.” 1 Cor. 15:58b
Lastly, the guests were invited to become part of the ministry supporters. Donors committed to supporting the Bible Society in one of the three following categories: Friends of the Society ($500 – $1,499), Association of Supporters ($1,500 – $4,999), and Board of Stakeholders ($5,000 & above).
