Archbishop Bacouni was ordained priest in the Greek-Catholic (Melkite) Church on July 30, 1995 after working 11 years in the banking sector. He was then ordained as Metropolitan of Tyre on November 27, 2005, elected as Archbishop of Akka on June 2014 and now elected as Metropolitan/Archbishop of Beirut and Jbeil on November 22, 2018. He holds degrees in Business Administration, Theology, and Philosophy. He was appointed by Pope Francis as member of the congregation for the Oriental churches in the Vatican on May 15, 2019. Bishop Bacouni is an active member and leader of the “Renewal in the Holy Spirit” movement. The supervisor of university pastoral work by the Assembly of Catholic Patriarchs and Bishops in Lebanon (APECL). He has been on the Bible Society Board since 2008 serving as a Treasurer and Board Officer until 2014. He recently rejoined the Bible Society Lebanon Board and served as Vice Chairman and Board Officer from 2020 until the end of 2023, then he was elected as its president in 2024.
