He was born on November 28, 1935, in the Kafr El-Abeda, Batroun. He completed his elementary and secondary studies in the Jesuit seminary.
He holds a BA in theology from St. Joseph’s University of the Jesuit Fathers in Beirut.
He holds master’s degrees in philosophy and theology. He also holds language diplomas in Hebrew, Syriac, and Greek from French universities.
He received a doctorate in theology (with a focus on writing) and philosophy (with a focus on the history of religions) from the Sorbonne University in Paris.
He was Director and then Head of the Maronite School of Wisdom in Beirut.
He teaches at several universities in Lebanon.
He is the former coordinator of the Bible Association in the East and has been on the Administrative Board of the Bible Society for more than 20 years.

He worked with the Society as a linguist on the good news Arabic Bible translation of the Old Testament. He developed titles for passages and parts of the Bible as well as an extensive reference document about the New Testament.
He has published over 350 books.
The Bible Society honored him in 2014 for his dedication to the translation of the Bible and his long service in the society’s administrative board.
