Scholarly Bible Editions, Inspired Students

Despite the challenges surrounding Lebanon and the region, the mission of sharing God’s Word perseveres. Bible Society – Lebanon recently had the privilege of spending a meaningful day at the St. John of Damascus Institute of Theology at the University of Balamand on March 18, distributing scholarly editions of Bible-based academic books to students and faculty.

This special initiative took place at the kind invitation of Archimandrite Jack Khalil, and was joined by Dr. Mike Bassous, Dr. Daniel Ayoush, and Dr. Issa Diab. What made the day truly memorable was not only the distribution of resources but also the rich conversations, the shared insights, and the sense of community fostered throughout the visit. The gathering concluded with a warm, fellowship-filled lunch, leaving all participants inspired and encouraged.

One student shared, “Receiving these books gives me confidence to explore Scripture deeply. It feels like a personal encouragement from God to keep learning, even when life feels uncertain.”

Moments like these serve as a powerful reminder of why the Bible Society continues its work: to ensure that God’s Word reaches hearts, minds, and future leaders, even in difficult times.

A previous similar event was conducted at the Near East School of Theology (NEST) on February 26, equipping students with scholarly editions of the Bible to advance their academic and theological journeys. By providing trusted biblical resources, we invest in the next generation of pastors, priests, scholars, and Christian leaders who will carry the message of faith and hope forward.

A faculty member reflected, “These resources are invaluable for research and academic study. They equip our students with the tools they need to engage Scripture at a scholarly level.”

A final event is planned for April 16 with the seminarians at University of the Holy Spirit – Kaslik (USEK) with 100+ participants, where Bible Society Board Treasurer and Biblicist, Bishop Antoine Awkar, will present a summary of the importance of the books to the learners.

Through these efforts, Bible engagement in Lebanon continues to flourish, strengthening the foundations of Christian education and empowering learners to explore Scripture deeply and meaningfully.

The mission goes on, and God’s Word remains a guiding light, inspiring learning, conversation, and transformation in every context.

The Bible Society’s mission is to spread the Holy Bible’s message and culture to all generations through translating, publishing, and distributing the Scriptures using visual, audio-visual, readable, and digital formats, encouraging people to read and engage with God’s word, advocating the Bible cause to uphold human dignity, and partnering with all Churches and Christian institutions.
