The Bible Society – Lebanon held its annual private dinner on 7 May 2019, at Le Maillon restaurant in Ashrafieh which hosted 130 persons from church representatives, clergy, businesspeople, professionals, politicians, and friends of the Bible Society. This occasion allows the Supporters to get acquainted with the year’s accomplishments, challenges and the future opportunities.
The Chairman, Mr. Amine Khoury, shared a word welcoming all guests, thanking everyone for their appreciated presence. Then His Excellency Archbishop Joseph Spiteri, the Apostolic Nuncio to Lebanon, blessed the event with an opening prayer.
During the dinner, the General Secretary, Dr. Mike Bassous shared about the accomplishments achieved through the five Centers of Excellence that complements the vision of the Bible Society, to holistically meet the needs of communities through the transforming Word of God. The Publishing Institute working on 12 new products this year in addition to the “Lebanon Bible” in partnership with USEK; Digital Bible mission launching 3 applications; Healing the Mind & Spirit – training 455 persons on a Trauma healing program that provide hope to underprivileged communities in Lebanon; MENA center for Biblical studies addressing three biblical lectures throughout the year; and the Institute for Leadership Development presenting Capacity Strengthening, Organizational Development and Transformational programs for Faith-Based entities in Lebanon and the region.
Moreover, the distribution of Scriptures has reached 220,000 items in 2018. The Children and youth programs were able to reach 34,567 persons last year and encouraged people to engage with the Word of God. Throughout the presentation, Dr. Bassous emphasized on the importance of the endorsement letters received and signed by the Patriarchs and Church leaders in the region.
As the dinner was coming to an end, the Bible Society took the opportunity to show appreciation to Eng. Ghassan Moughabghab for his unconditional generosity to the Bible cause. The honor plaque included the bible verse, “We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Thessalonians 1:3).
The first-time attending guests were invited to become part of the ministry supporters. Donors committed to support the Bible Society in one of the three following categories: Friends of the Society ($500 – $1,499), Association of Supporters ($1,500 – $4,999), and Board of Stakeholders ($5,000 & above).
The Bible Society’s vision is to holistically meet the needs of communities through the transforming Word of God. As a Christian inter-confessional, ecumenical, non-profit organization, it works to spread the Holy Bible’s message and culture to all generations through translating, publishing, and distributing the Scriptures using visual, audio-visual, readable, and digital formats, encouraging people to read and engage with God’s Word, advocating the Bible cause to uphold human dignity, and partnering with all Churches and Christian institutions.
